What to do with 5 weeks in the USA?
20yo male from Australia . Goin to the US for 5 weeks starting in Feb 2010. I'll be couch surfing my way around and don't want to hire a car (plethora of reasons), so how should I set up my trip. I'll probably stay 2/3/4 nights at each location so that's about 10 stops. I know the US is as big as Aus, but because there is less outback (ie nothing), there is so much of the country to see.... So should I fly from location to location to places around the country, or just cover a given area, ie. the North-East (NY, Boston etc.) or West Coast (LA, Seattle etc.) for example. What would be best, also I don't want to spend most of my time travelling. Also, are there any must see events in Febuary. Love sport, any good sport on in that time that you can get in to? Good responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
around february is mardi-gras, so you should go down to new orleans, louisiana. and the french quarter is a good place to visit down there too. if you're into ghost type things, louisiana has a lot of that stuff to offer also.
in march is spring break, so go down to florida, or a beach anywhere! florida is the sunny state, and because it's a peninsula there are a lot of beaches to go to. on february 7, miami is hosting the super bowl, which is the biggest event in football, good luck trying to get tickets though.
*keep in mind though, mardi-gras and spring break is partying, so there'll be a lot of drunk people, and you can't drink yet.

but don't limit yourself to one part of the country, america is so big, and is filled with many amazing sites, try to see as many as possible. coming from texas myself, i think you should really go here. it's really gonna cost a lot for being in so many places for 5 weeks, but it's worth it.
