Car Hire By The Month Questions

Can I sue an employer after terminating me knowing that my visa states I have to leave the USA immediately?

Six months ago, I was hired by a company in the USA and moved here on a 2 year work visa. My visa rules say I can only work for this specific company. If I no longer work for them I have 10 days to leave the country.
At the time I was hired, my letter of offer stated "Our business is rapidly expanding... and developing exciting opportunities". A few months pass and the company has laid off dozens and dozens of employees, including me.
Is it right for the company to hire me with the promise that they are expanding, only to terminate employment a short time later?
I sold all my possesions in my old country, made a life changing move, purchased a car and leased an appartment, only to have to leave in a few days.
Do I have any grounds to sue?

I am sorry that things did not work out for you. I would encourage you to keep in mind that visa are temporary and are not intended to keep someone in the United States as permanent residents (green cards can do that).

The reason employers use temporary visas is that they are saying to the government that there are not enough qualified U.S. workers to fulfill their hiring needs. If employers are laying off U.S. workers ,then it rather makes sense that temporary visa workers would be released from employment.

Again, sorry for your hardship. Check out the link below. They are an immigration firm and you may have other options.

I'm a 21yr old working a temp FT job, any tips on what i should do after the job is over?

I'm 21yrs old and I'm working a FT temp job. i want to buy a car but i don't have the money, i have only 2 bills but i make min wage at the job. the job is only going to last like 1 or 2 months longer and i cant seem to find any places that are hiring near-by that are FT perm. can someone give some tips, I'm going to school for IT at a community college.

The economy is definitely tough right now. As a fellow job seeker I can feel your pain. The good news is that if you're only making minimum wage then you really don't have anywhere to go but up. I would suggest applying absolutely everywhere that you come across (be it a retail store or a software development firm). Although its tougher now, it is still very possible to get another job. At this point I wouldn't be as concerned with the type of job as I would with the monetary aspect. The economy will eventually bounce back and then you can pursue your interests in IT more directly.

Of course, you can always apply for unemployment with the government if you can't find a job before your current job runs out. Like using a credit card, it should be your last resort but can still be very helpful.
